This page explains where the information in the directory comes from and, just as importantly, what its limits are.

Where the information comes from

  • The operator’s own website and booking pages.
  • The operator’s official listings in the Apple App Store and Google Play, for app links.
  • Public registers and guidance published by licensing authorities (local councils, Transport for London, the Driver & Vehicle Agency).
  • Corrections sent to us by operators and passengers.

What a listing contains

Where the operator makes it public, a listing shows the trading name, phone number, website, app links, whether cards are accepted, and services such as wheelchair-accessible vehicles, child seats or airport transfers. The short note beside each operator is our editorial summary of what that operator appears best suited to, based on what it says about itself.

What we do not do

  • We do not take test rides, and we do not claim to have used every operator listed.
  • We do not verify licences on your behalf. Appearing on this site is not proof that an operator, vehicle or driver currently holds a valid licence.
  • We do not publish live prices. Fares are set by the operator or by the council’s fare table. Always confirm the fare when you book.

Order of listings

The order on a page is an editorial judgement about which operators are likely to be useful to most passengers first, for example a long-established local firm with a phone line before a national app with patchy local coverage. It is not a quality ranking and it is not a safety rating.

How current the information is

Each town, city and airport page shows the date it was last updated. That date tells you when the page was last edited. It does not guarantee that every detail was re-checked on that day. If a number does not connect or a website has moved, please tell us.

Check the licence yourself

Before you travel, check that the vehicle displays a licence plate from the issuing authority and that the driver has a photo badge. Private hire vehicles must be pre-booked. Our guide how to check a driver or vehicle licence explains how.

Corrections

Operators and passengers can report a correction at any time. We do not charge for corrections or for being listed.
